jane austen’s pride and prejudice (1813) has many great moments that i’d gladly make thousands of posts analyzing but i just love the “accomplished woman” scene SO much. like you could get rid of the rest of the book and be left with that scene and you would still have the thesis of the book laid out pretty nicely for you. as he lists the characteristics an accomplished woman has, darcy actually means to pay elizabeth a compliment, since he clearly holds her in high regard and would probably include her in his list of accomplished women, but she interprets it as both an insult and his ego coming through. their respective prejudices blind one to the other’s true intent and understanding in what is essentially a summary of the book’s entire point and it’s such a big chef’s kiss from me!!! in this essay i will—
